What type of music do you like?
Indie and R&B/ Soul recieved the highest amount of votes, both getting 47% each. The people taking my questionnaire were all aged 11-17 highlighting that this age range obviously enjoys this type of music. Hip Hop/ Rap was also a popular choice with 6 votes. Electric/House Music (my magazine's music) recieved 3 votes, although this is quite small it still shows that people do listen to this type of music.
How do you consume music?
Phone reached the highest amounts of votes with 11, this is probably due to the age range of people that took the questionnaire. People aged 11-17 are more reliant on technology and their phones and therefore bound to listen to music on it as it's easily accessible. Due to this I may use phone advertisement on the side of my front cover, as it's obviously a popular thing. Also Ipod and You tube reieved 8 votes each, again this highlights the reliance on technology. An ipod is similar to a phone, and you tube is good for quick listening rather than downloading. CD's only got 3 showing that this way of consuming music has gone out of fashion.
How do you hear about new music?
Internet and TV both got the highest amount of votes, again it's probably due to the age range as younger people tend to watch more TV music channels and use the internet more frequently. Music Magazines and Family only recieved 3 votes each, so my aim is to make a music magazine that would appeal to a younger audience and therefore found out new music from this.
Do you buy music magazines?
2 people put yes and 13 people put no, again highlighting the need to produce a music magazine that would appeal to a younger audience and make them more popular.
How much would you spend on a music magazine?
£1-£2 got the highest votes with 8, this is probably due to the fact a younger audience took my questionnaire as they're less likely to spend a lot of money on one as it's money they don't have. Music Magazines tend to be dearer than this so unfortunately I probably will have to keep it at a higher price, especially due to the fact I want it to have a free gift.
What do you think should be on a magazine front cover?
Music artists got the most with 14 votes, obviously this is a must as it attracts people to the magazine if they see one of their favourite artists. Also what got quite a lot of votes was Upcoming music concerts/ festivals which would be an interesting thing to put onto my front cover. In my initial ideas I already thought about doing this.
What colour schemes would you like to see in a music magazine?
Black, white and red recieved the most votes. This colour scheme is very eyecatching and classy however it doesn't particularly fit with the tone of my magazine, black and neon also got a lot of votes which is what I wanted to use. It fits with the house/electro theme.
What would you like to read about in a music magazine?
Reviews and Interviews got the highest votes, I was going to include an interview on my double page spread anyway. Celebrity gossip also got quite a lot of votes so I am going to make my interview quite gossipy.
What interests you when reading music magazines?
Images and new releases got the highest votes, obviously I was going to include images but I am now thinking about adding a box on my double page spread with new releases which would be included on every issue. Also what was quite popular was competitions, I could maybe add this on my contents.
What adverts would you like to see in a music magazine?
Upcoming concert/tours was the most popular option, I was thinking about talking about this anyway within my interview. Also designer clothing and latest gadgets, this sort of thing is obviously quite appealing to a younger audience.
How often should the magazine be issued?
Weekly and monthly both recieved 7 votes each, I think monthly is best because weekly is too much and would be too expensive for a younger audience. Also it gives them something to look forward too each month.
Where do you buy music?
Online recieved basically all of the votes with in store only recieving one, again this highlights that buying CD's isn't very popular any more due to the increased use of technology. Phones, Ipods etc. are very fashionable items and therefore people are more likely to buy it on there. Also it is slightly cheaper and you don't have to go out of your way to buy it.
